The academic year at Swinburne University of Technology consists of two fifteen week semesters. Participants in the Brockport Swinburne University Program may enroll for the fall, spring, or for the full academic year.

Housing:
Students studying at Swinburne on Brockport's program will be housed in the on-campus residential college at Hawthorne Campus. For further details please refer to Swinburne's website at: http://www.swin.edu.au
The facilities of the residential college include: fully furnished individual rooms; heating in each bedroom; computer cabling with access to the University network (personal computer not provided); on-site manager and monitored by Swinburne University security; bathroom and toilets on each floor; fully equipped kitchen with self catering facilities; recreation/TV lounge area; landscaped outdoor BBQ area; public telephones; and laundry facilities. Orientation:
An orientation program specifically for study abroad and exchange students is conducted by Swinburne University during the week prior to the commencement of classes in both semesters. Issues covered include settling in to life in Melbourne, culture shock, accommodation, health insurance, clubs and societies, email access, study skills, weekend trips and social events.

As a very rough guide, a participant in the Brockport Swinburne University Program will need to budget approximately $300 to $400 AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS per month, to pay for daily local travel, textbooks and other school supplies, entertainment, meals and other necessities.
The actual amount that you will spend depends heavily on your style of living, and will vary with each individual's personal spending habits, entertainment preferences and travel choices.
Financial aid applies towards fees.

Credits:
Study abroad students are required to take 50 Swinburne University credit points per semester. The recommended load is 50 credit points. Most units at Swinburne are valued at 12.5 credit points, which equates approximately between 12 and 16 hours of study, including class attendance, private study, library research, etc. The actual workload can vary from unit to unit and even week to week across the university.
Curriculum:
Participants in the Brockport Swinburne University of Technology Program will select (prior to departure) three courses available to study abroad students at Swinburne University of Technology. All instruction in the Brockport Swinburne University Program is by Swinburne University faculty.
Participants in the Brockport Swinburne University Program are examined in the same manner (and to the same standard) as their Australian counterparts and classmates. The majority of courses in which they will enroll are examined formally at the end of the semester and in order to be awarded credit, participants must take--and pass--the examination at the end of the study period in question.
Internships:
Full time internship placements are available at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne for a minimum of six weeks (to be done in the summer months) up to a full academic year - this allows for flexible credits and length of stay.
Normally study abroad students take the internship program for ten weeks at Swinburne University, earning 12 credit hours total.
Housing will be secured off-campus for students on this internship placement option.
Those students doing the internship opportunity will need a work visa to enter Australia, not the student visa with a COE number.
Students will take part in Swinburne University's orientation prior to their work placement for participation in the internship program.
