About the France Summer at Institut de Touraine
The Institut de Touraine, in Tours, France Summer Program allows students to participate in one or more 4-week sessions (May-September). This ensures students to continuously progress their French language skills.
The French language immersion program through Brockport is conducted at the Institut de Touraine in Tours, France. The Institut specializes in teaching French to non-native speakers. The Institut de Touraine is a pedagogic branch of the University of Tours and is housed in two well-appointed nineteenth-century mansions in the historic old section of the city of Tours.

Tours is a busy provincial capital in a region of France with one of the most perfect climates in Europe, and in which (reputedly) the "most perfect" French is spoken. Paris is only one hundred fifty kilometers from Tours (one hour by train).

Housing & Orientation
Housing:
Housing for participants of the Brockport Tours Program is in homestays with French-speaking families in Tours. Students are placed with these families by the Institut. The cost of housing is based on single accommodation (bathroom shared with others in household).
The homestay includes a demi-pension meal plan arrangement: Participants receive fourteen meals a week (7 breakfasts and 7 dinners). Other meals are the responsibility of the individual participant.
Orientation:
The students are met in Paris at a hotel in Montparnasse by the program's director. Then they can participate in a general guided tour of Paris (unless they prefer to choose another activity, if they are already familiar with the city). The next day, they will be accompanied to Tours by the director, and met at the station by their host families. On the 3rd day after their arrival in France, they will meet the Institut de Touraine staff, and undergo a placement test to determine their level for the language instruction to come and then participate in an orientation program in Tours. The director will be available to answer any questions, and solve any problems that may arise, at any time during the session.

As a very rough guide, a participant in the Brockport Tours Program will need around $400 to $500 per month to pay for daily local travel, textbooks and other school supplies, entertainment, meals and other necessities.

This estimate does not include the purchase of clothing; travel in France or Europe outside of the excursions/field trips organized by the program.

The group flight will cost participants between $900-$1,200 (depending on departure/return dates, the point of origin of any connecting flights in the US, etc.).
The actual amount that you will spend depends heavily on your style of living, and will vary with each individual's personal spending habits, entertainment preferences and travel choices.
Financial aid applies towards fees.
*SUNY regulations require that participants in Overseas Academic Programs have "adequate" insurance coverage. Students whose current health insurance is not "adequate" may purchase appropriate coverage for $95.50 per month (this is the current cost and is subject to change).

Courses
Courses
Summer courses (June to September) are organized in 9 levels, from total beginner to advanced. This ensures students who stay several months can continuously progress, moving up levels at the end of the month.
Credits
The program is 5 weeks, 6 credits.
For Brockport French Majors and Minors
Students studying abroad in Tours will receive a total 6 Brockport credits for the summer, depending on the session chosen.
Students are strongly encouraged to consult with their departmental academic advisor while considering study abroad options.
Curriculum:
All 9 levels meet for intensive language courses every morning, Monday through Friday, from 8:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. In the Afternoons Levels 1 and 2 courses have 90-minute laboratory sessions and oral expression classes. Level 3 students may also take a course in French Culture. Levels 4 and 5 have courses in Art History, French Literature or French Civilization. Levels 6 has courses in Translation and in French History.

Dates
Summer 5-Week Program
Arrive Paris (CDG): Saturday, May 25th, 2013
(Students should arrive in Paris on the morning of May 25th, 2013 by 10 or 11am. They will take a train from Paris to Tours with Gladys Lissoir, the Brockport resident director for Tours, where they will meet their families. Arrival details will follow from Gladys Lissoir.)
