About Charles Darwin University
Charles Darwin University (formerly known as Northern Territory University or NTU) is the major tertiary education institution in the Northern Territory, providing a wide range of courses to around 11,000 students. CDU has developed research strengths in the areas of tropical environmental science, tropical plant science, Aboriginal studies, and Southeast Asian language, culture, and society.
Darwin is Australia's youngest city. Over one half of Darwin's permanent residents are under 30. Situated on a beautiful natural harbor, Darwin is a modern cosmopolitan city, just one hour's flight from Indonesia. There are two very distinct seasons in Darwin and the "Top End" of the Northern Territory: the "Dry" from May to October (warm sunny days and cool nights) and the "Wet" from November to April (Monsoonal currents bring both rain and humidity). About three hours drive away is Kakadu National Park and Katherine Gorge, with its 13 spectacular gorges separated by rapids.
CDU has recently undertaken a promotion to encourage young film makers to document their adventures and experiences at Charles Darwin University and in Darwin and the Northern Territory. The results are great!

North Flinders International House is part of a network of International Houses in Australia and overseas where both local and overseas students live as a residential community. Located on Casuarina Campus, North Flinders International House is close to the library, university amenities and the teaching area. It is within easy walking distance of the Casuarina Coastal Reserve, Casuarina Shopping Square, 2 cinemas, Olympic swimming pool and parklands. Set amid lush tropical lawns and gardens, North Flinders International House offers the student fully catered or self catering accommodation alternatives.
For many international students, homestay accommodation offers a rewarding and rich cultural experience. You will be welcomed into the homes of typical Australian families who provide a caring, nurturing and safe family environment in peaceful suburbs only 10 minutes from the University. Orientation:
An orientation program specifically for study abroad and exchange students is conducted by Charles Darwin University during the week prior to the commencement of classes in both semesters. Issues covered include settling in to life in Darwin, culture shock, accommodation, health insurance, clubs and societies, email access, study skills, weekend trips, and social events.

As a very rough guide, a participant in the Brockport Charles Darwin University Program will need to budget approximately $500 to $600 AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS per month to pay for daily local travel, textbooks and other school supplies, entertainment, meals and other necessities.
The actual amount that you will spend depends heavily on your style of living, and will vary with each individual's personal spending habits, entertainment preferences and travel choices.
Financial aid applies towards fees.
*Enrollment in most Science and Engineering programs at Charles Darwin are at an additional extra charge.
**Varies depending on the SUNY campus at which the participant pays tuition.
This estimate does not include the purchase of clothing; travel in Australia outside of the excursions/field trips organized by the program.
The group flight will cost participants approximately $1,800 (depending on departure/return dates, the point of origin of any connecting flights in the US, etc.).
The cost (and items included in the cost) as listed on the website are subject to change and should be considered estimates. Final budget sheets will be mailed to the student prior to departure and usually upon acceptance.

The semester at Charles Darwin University is usually 13 weeks long. Study abroad students are required to take a full course load of 4-5 courses per semester. The actual work load can vary from unit to unit and week to week across the university's disciplines. Students will select their course areas prior to their departure.
Curriculum:
Participants in the Brockport Charles Darwin University Program will select (prior to departure) courses from the courses available to study abroad students at Charles Darwin University. All instruction in the Brockport Charles Darwin University Program is by Charles Darwin University faculty. Participants in the Brockport Charles Darwin University Program are examined in the same manner (and to the same standard) as their Australian counterparts and classmates. The majority of courses in which they will enroll are examined formally at the end of the semester and in order to be awarded credit, participants must take--and pass--the examination at the end of the study period in question.
Charles Darwin University offers a wide range of academic programs at both the undergraduate and graduate level, with strengths in: Environmental Sciences, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing, Aboriginal Studies, Art-including access to the Centre for Youth Music and the Darwin Symphony Orchestra, Tourism and Hospitality Studies, plus a wide range of Humanities, Social Science, Science, Business, Nursing, Law, Education and Information Technology courses.
Internships:
The Charles Darwin University offers a number of internship opportunities. If you wish to enroll in an internship you should advise us of your interest at the time of application. Charles Darwin University will attempt to tailor an internship to meet your individual needs. If your internship application is approved you will be advised prior to arrival. Please note that internship placements are limited, so early application is encouraged.
