A GPA of 2.8 in the candidate's major.
A willingness both to study and provide community services in Vietnam.
An ability to deal maturely with unanticipated changes in a society with rich traditions that is attempting to adjust to new economic and social demands while it struggles to maintain its present socialist political system.

A familiarity with Vietnamese history.
A willingness to learn and use a foreign language.
