Credits:

Participants in the Brockport University College London Program will normally earn twelve to sixteen credits in the fall semester, sixteen to eighteen credits for the two term spring semester, or thirty to thirty-two credits for a full three term academic year.

Curriculum:

Successful applicants to Brockport's University College London program become candidates for admission to one or two departments where they will pursue a course of study. Students will study three or four courses per semester and those wishing to study in two departments are encouraged to split those equally. Courses can be pre-selected prior to departure, but cannot be confirmed until candidates arrive at UCL and meet with their tutor.

There are many nuances to gaining admission to UCL; the following list is comprehensive but not exhaustive. Those students wishing to study popular subjects such as English, History, Economics and Psychology are advised that a minimum GPA of 3.5 is required. English Department fall only students must apply for joint admission to a second department. Spring/summer students can apply to English as their sole department if they wish, and take all four courses there. Furthermore, the Department of English Literature accepts only students major in the discipline at their home campus, and only students admitted to the Department are allowed to matriculate in its course offerings. Students wishing to combine literature with another discipline are advised to apply for entry into the European Cultural Studies Department. Candidates for the Slade School of Art Independent Studio Program (not Fine Arts courses) must submit a portfolio of their work before matriculation can be secured (an additional fee is also assessed). Slade School is no longer accepting applications for the taught courses - only the Independent Studio Program is now available. History of Art students should be aware that this Department is often full in the spring semester and therefore they are encouraged to apply for fall or full-year admission. The Faculty of Life Sciences (Anatomy, Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, etc.) and the Faculty of Engineering do not offer placements for students wishing to study in the fall semester only. Students are encouraged to consult the most recent edition of UCL's Study Abroad Guide at:
http://www.ucl.ac.uk/prospective-students/study-abroad-guide/

All participants are examined in the same manner (and to the same standard) as their British counterparts and classmates. The majority of courses in which they enroll are examined formally at the end of the course and in order to be awarded credit, participants must take--and--pass the examination at the end of the study period in question.

LENGTH OF PROGRAM
The teaching of courses takes place within the first two terms (Fall and Spring). Each of these terms is 12 weeks in length and are separated by a three week break at Christmas in the fall and Easter in the spring.

The third term (Summer) is reserved for revision lectures, individual tutorials and formal assessment which usually takes the form of examinations.

University College London recommends that students attend for the full academic year in order to be completely integrated with the British education system and student life. However, it is possible to enroll at University College London for less than the full year, e.g, for the Fall term from September to December (FT) or for the Spring and Summer terms from January until June (ST).

TEACHING METHODS
Study abroad students are fully integrated in to the academic life at University College London and are expected to attend courses in exactly the same way as British students. This means that students will be required to attend the lectures, seminars, tutorials, practicals/laboratory classes associated with each course and sit the end of year examination in the Summer term. Each course listing provides information on the method of teaching. In addition to the contact teaching, students should remember that they will be expected to engage in independent study to a much greater degree than in US universities.

EVALUATION
Students admitted for the full academic year and for the Spring terms from January until June will be required to take the end of year examination in the Summer term. As students admitted for the Fall term only cannot take the examination in the Summer term, the Departments will arrange for these students to either take a special examination or produce extended essays for each course by the end of their studies in December.

ACADEMIC ADVISEMENT
In each department, there is an Affiliate Student Tutor who has special responsibility to ensure that all affiliate students are fully integrated into the department and are taking the appropriate courses which make up an academically coherent program. These Tutors also advise the students on the method of study and assessment for each course and help the students settle into the department. Final decisions about the courses to be taken by a study abroad student is made after discussion with the Affiliate Student Tutor upon arrival at UCL.
