Students intending to study at Swinburne are advised to use the following online tools when developing their study program:

Swinburne CourseFinder

www.swin.edu.au/coursefinder

Timetable site

http://allocate.swin.edu.au/aplus/aptimetable

Swinburne CourseFinder

To find suitable subjects check the subject box and uncheck the Course box. Choose the Hawthorn/Prahran/Lilydale campus from the drop down menu. You can also use the key words field to search for specific subjects.

Explanation of subject codes

Undergraduate students need to ensure that any subjects chosen have a subject code that starts with H (or higher education/university level). The first number in the code represents the state or your level. Note: Undergraduate degrees are primarily 3 years of study so students should choose subjects that begin with 1, 2 or 3.

Students need to carefully read the detailed subject information available on CourseFinder paying particular attention to the prerequisite requirements.

Once a list of subjects is established, students can check semester availability at the timetable site: http://allocate.swin.edu/aplus/aptimetable

Credits:

Study abroad students are required to take between 9 and 14 Swinburne University credit points per semester. The recommended load is 12 credit points. Most units at Swinburne are valued at either 3 or 4 credit points, which equates approximately between 12 and 16 hours of study, including class attendance, private study, library research, etc. The actual workload can vary from unit to unit and even week to week across the university.

Curriculum:

Participants in the Brockport-Swinburne University of Technology Program will select (prior to departure) three courses available to study abroad students at Swinburne University of Technology. All instruction in the Brockport/Swinburne University Program is by Swinburne University faculty.

Participants in the Brockport-Swinburne University Program are examined in the same manner (and to the same standard) as their Australian counterparts and classmates. The majority of courses in which they will enroll are examined formally at the end of the semester and in order to be awarded credit, participants must take--and pass--the examination at the end of the study period in question.

Some of the subjects offered by SUT to students from overseas are:

Business
Engineering & Technology
Arts and Social Science
Multimedia
Computing & Information Technology
Applied Science
Design
Tourism

*The subjects listed above are intended to illustrate the scope of subjects available to study abroad students at Swinburne University of Technology. For a complete listing, please click on the course links above.

Internships:

Full time internship placements are available at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne for a minimum of six weeks (to be done in the summer months) up to a full academic year - this allows for flexible credits and length of stay.

Normally study abroad students take the internship program for ten weeks at Swinburne University, earning 12 credit hours total.

Housing will be secured off-campus for students on this internship placement option.

Those students doing the internship opportunity will need a work visa to enter Australia, not the student visa with a COE number.

Students will take part in Swinburne University's orientation prior to their work placement for participation in the internship program.
