  Go back to City University

Courses:

The website: http://www.city.ac.uk/international/study_abroad/academic_programme.html lists typical modules under various degree programs at City University. As the website indicates, not every module is offered every semester.

Credits:

Participants in the Brockport City University Program will normally earn three credit hours for each course successfully completed at City University (with the exception of the Extension courses). Therefore, it is typical for participants to accumulate 12 credits in the fall, and 15-16 in the longer spring semester.

Curriculum:

Prior to their departure, participants in Brockport's City University program will select four courses in either the fall or spring term. Study abroad students are allowed to take all their courses in one academic department or they can cross register in multiple disciplines. However, many departments require students to have prerequisites in the chosen subject area (e.g., advanced 3rd year Psychology courses are only available to students with prior experience and a background in quantitative methods). In addition to the standard subjects, City offers study abroad students the opportunity to enroll in Extension Courses for an additional two credits. These specially designed courses introduce foreign students to such aspects as "The Performing Arts in London" or the "European Business Culture in France." First year business courses are now closed and will no longer offer philosophy from 2006, but now offer criminology through sociology and politics.

All instruction is by City University faculty and study abroad students are examined in the same manner, and to the same standard, as their British counterparts. The majority of courses they will enroll in are examined formally at the end of the semester and in order to be awarded credit, participants must take--and--pass the examinations at the end of the study period.
