Credits:
Study abroad students are required to take between 9 and 14 Macquarie University credit points per semester. The recommended load is 12 credit points. Most units at Macquarie are valued at either 3 or 4 credit points, which equates approximately between 12 and 16 hours of study, including class attendance, private study, library research, etc. The actual workload can vary from unit to unit and even week to week across the university. For every semester of full-time enrollment, a student can expect to earn a maximum of 16 U.S. credits.
Curriculum:
Participants in the Brockport Macquarie University-Sydney Program will select (prior to departure) three courses available to study abroad students at Macquarie University-Sydney. All instruction in the Brockport Macquarie University-Sydney program is by Macquarie University-Sydney faculty.
Participants in the Brockport Macquarie University-Sydney Program are examined in the same manner (and to the same standard) as their Australian counterparts and classmates. The majority of courses in which they will enroll are examined formally at the end of the semester and in order to be awarded credit, participants must take-and-pass the examination at the end of the study period in question.
Internships:
Macquarie University offers study abroad and exchange students the option of undertaking an internship during their studies in Sydney. The internships provide an opportunity to gain valuable work experience within a relevant organization while completing their studies. The internships are unpaid positions with companies near to the university or a short train or bus ride away. Students are found relevant positions related to their study major and/or interests. The internships are for Macquaire University credit and as such are available to transfer to the student's home degree. Internships are available in the following areas: Marketing, Digital Media/Website Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Entrepreneurial, Finance, Trade and Export, Human Resource Management, Information Technology, Not-for-profit & NGO, the Sciences and Psychology.
Internship units are assessed by visits, interviews and journals, as well as a major assignment undertaken by the participant. The internship may be taken for 3 to 6 credit points requiring 12 or 18 hours per week in the work placement. In conjunction with the internship, students will take one, two or three units from the normal selection of Macquarie units. A GPA of 3.0 is required for entry into the internship program. You can visit the website at: http://www.international.mq.edu.au/internships
